Vitoria-Gasteiz is the capital of the province of Alava, in the Basque Country. The city has a medieval centre, where countless places of great traditional character, such as the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca (White Virgin Square) and historic buildings like the cathedral of Santa María. The centre is relatively small and easy to get around on foot.
